Setting Up MetaMask: Your First Crypto Wallet

Course Objectives

By the end of this module, learners will:

• Install MetaMask on their preferred browser or mobile device

• Create a new Ethereum wallet securely

• Safely store their Secret Recovery Phrase

• Prepare their wallet for NFT transactions
  
  Primary Blockchain(s): Ethereum (compatible with Polygon, Arbitrum, and other EVM networks)
  Tools/Platforms: MetaMask (browser extension or mobile app)

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Download MetaMask

• Browser Extension:

  • Visit the official MetaMask download page: https://metamask.io/download

  • Choose your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge, or Opera) and click on the corresponding link to install the extension.MetaMask

  

  Mobile App:

  • iOS: Download from the App Store

  • Android: Download from Google Play
    
    

    

⚠️ Security Tip: Always download MetaMask from official sources to avoid phishing scams.

2. Install and Set Up MetaMask

• For Browser:

  • After installation, click on the MetaMask icon in your browser toolbar.

  • Click "Get Started" and then "Create a Wallet".

  • Set a strong password and agree to the terms of use.
    
    

    

• For Mobile:

  • Open the MetaMask app.

  • Tap "Get Started" and then "Create a new wallet".

  • Create a strong password and agree to the terms.

3. Secure Your Secret Recovery Phrase

• MetaMask will display a 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase. This is crucial for wallet recovery.

• Important: Write it down on paper and store it in a safe place. Do not share it digitally or with anyone.

• Confirm your Secret Recovery Phrase as prompted.

🛡️ Security Tip: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase. MetaMask will never ask for it unsolicited.

4. Finalize Wallet Setup

• Once confirmed, your wallet is ready!

• You can now view your Ethereum address and start receiving ETH or other tokens.

• To interact with NFT marketplaces, you'll need to fund your wallet:

  • Buy ETH directly through MetaMask using a debit/credit card.

  • Transfer ETH from another wallet or exchange.
